Job Search and Social Networking

Published by homewithjoe at 4:28 pm under Job search, Uncategorized Edit This

Well, I gave in and finally joined a social networking website. I knew some of my friends and acquaintances were on there, but I was surprised at how many were. It will be easier to stay connected with all those people. I had just been using email, but with as many people as I know, that doesn’t work very well.

You should be careful about what you post on internet sites like this, especially if you are looking for a job. Employers search the web to check up on applicants and find out more about them. You should change the settings on your page so that only your friends can see your content. That will help, but won’t totally stop employers from finding it. You shouldn’t post anything that is offensive or unprofessional. If you wouldn’t say it or show it to your boss, don’t post it!

If you want to publish your opinions and content that is controversial, you can start a blog on a site like this anonymously. That way, it won’t be associated with your real name and affect your job search.

Social networking can help you find a job by introducing you to potential employers. Just be careful about what you post.
